Actually, I discovered the solution right here in my office.  We have a
heavy duty Canon C3200 copier/printer/scanner that can take an A3 size
image and email to me as a JPG.  I only lose about 1/2" on the narrow
side so I usually split the difference.  The results have been quite
remarkable.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.  I just couldn't make it work using
my digital camera.
