Agreed. If such a function were to be useful to others then I don't
think I could invoke any principled argument against it, but I

These are not terribly well defined - as far as VORBIS comments are
concerned you can do pretty much what you like. There are some
recommendations but not very comprehensive, IMHO.
I'm not absolutely sure what's being looked for here - I think its the
ability to tag up some music so you can play an arbitrary but
predefined series of songs (as if they were an album). You could (just
about) do this by using multiple Genre values - invent a genre for this
"album", tag the tracks with it, select the Genre and play all songs.
But its not pretty and its not very scaleable (your Genre list would
get overloaded very quickly).
We could invent an arbitrary new tag ("ALBUM2" or something) but that
doesn't feel good either.
How about making use of the User-Defined Tag enhancement request?
