To each his own. I'd never consider doing this. Storage needs don't
bother me. The only place the filler and the duff generally get in the
way is when playing in random mode. I'm hoping that some day the track
rating system of SlimServer gets implemented, then perhaps the ratings
could be used to filter tracks selected for random play.

One thing I've noticed about random play, though, is that I'll often
hear a lesser track from an album that catches my ear. I'll then look
to see where it came from, sometimes not even recognizing the artist.
The same track when played in the context of the album goes virtually
unheard because it's not as good as the rest of the album. So I'm
actually discovering great music in that "filler" by hearing it in
random play.

I have considered leaving tracks out of the library. In particular, I
have some reservations about some of the the "bonus" tracks added to
classic albums, especially if they're not from the same time period, as
is often the case. Since I often listen to complete albums, I wish
there were an easy way to choose whether I want to listen to the
"original" or the extended version of an album. I suppose playlists
might do this, but I don't think they'd be organized with albums. If I
could browse artists, or artwork, then when I got to an album, I had the
choice of playlists to play, instead of just "All Songs" that would be
ideal.

Particularly with jazz, I love having ten or twenty different versions
of the same tune by the same artist. That's the essence of jazz.
There are often classic versions, or at least those we're all familiar
with, but the others are almost always worthwhile and often better,
although there's seldom a "best". The other thing with jazz is that if
you have a large library of reissues then you'll probably have several
hundred tracks worth of false starts and recording session banter. I
love having all that available, but it doesn't usually work well in
random mode.
