Chris AFAIK there isn't a way to do what you want.
I would query whether a hierarchy is the best thing, though, especially for classical music. Amongst the "Genres" I tag my classical music with are Classical (it all gets that one), Baroque, Romantic, Concerto, Symphony, Piano, Choral etc etc. Nothing hierarchical about that! My record so far is I think 6 genres on one piece... For example, an early 20th Century piece might be "Romantic" AND "Modern"...
