Generally I find tagging by genre too subjective, but what I would find useful is to tag my music by decade such that I have genres for, eg, 70s, 80s, 90, etc. Problem is that I can not find an accurate source of such information - freedb tends to reflect the year in which the CD was produced which more often than not does not reflect the year in which the recording was first made - that is particularly true for compilation or best of CDs.
