I have my CDs ripped to WAV but if I'd like to begin ripping to FLAC or AIFF is that going to create a problem for Slimserver?
No problem. mixed libraries work fine.
Also is AIFF lossless and of the same quality as WAV?
Lossless is lossless. By definition, if it is lossless you can create the exact same bits as the source. Wav (PCM) files are inconvienent mostly because there is no place for tags, and tags make library management a lot easier. And PCM files are 60% to 100% bigger than Flac or other lossless formats. But since disks are so cheap, the saving it disk space is not a big deal. Since you are just starting, go slow. Don't convert hundreds of CDs before you test it, Do a few, make sure you like it, then do 20 or 40, test again. Then when you are confident that all is working, do your hundreds and hundreds. -- Pat http://www.pfarrell.com/music/slimserver/slimsoftware.html _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
