I haven't done the blind testing because a bit-for-bit backup copy is a good thing in any case, and my collection isn't large.
I bet the Denon is doing a redundant A>D conversion on everything, since you're using the RCA output of the SB AND the Denon. Perhaps you could try coax or optical from the SB into the Denon? Or even the SB into the Carver directly.
