Just <title> works for me. Singles are their own work and I try to give them equal consideration when I seek something to listen to. I have one case where it's almost a problem, as the single is the title track from its original album, and therefore the single album shares the regular album name. However, the album is conveniently a two disc set, so everything gets its own directory:
