Thanks fella's ! I think that I understand. What I "may" do is setup two different systems. I'd use my desktop to do all of my SB type stuff, storage of music files, slim server, etc. Then I'd setup my Sons desktop with itunes to do his and my ipods.
So can I convert my Apple Lossless files to flac or do I need to re-rip everything? I'd hate to have to spend all the time to re-rip 300+ cd's and play lists etc. Realistically if I have to re-rip everything I may not bother, since I just don't have that much free time, and from what I gather I probably won't get any better sound, just better support for problems( that I don't have :-) Really I guess I'm trying to find a good reason to change from what I'm doing ..itunes works, my two SB3's work fine, no drop outs or glitches ( thinking of adding a Transporter in my main system)and my MAIN thing is that they sound good as they can.( reformed audiophile:-) If re doing it in flac was a sonic improvment I'd do it in a second, but that's not what I'm hearing. Seems that the only area of improvment would be in using a better ripping program than itunes; but itunes works, it's easy to use, and it works...
