I decided to encode my 700 or so cd's with Flac. I admittedly do not have the hifi / ears / patients to perceive the difference between a 320kbs mp3 and a flac at the moment. Of course that is what I thought of 128kbs mp3's in 1997.
i decided to use flac for the following reasons: 1) Hard drive space is cheap (my flacs fit easily on a 500gb drive) 2) yes , transcoding is a pain. But i can easily imagine 10gb flash mp3/flac/wmv/qt players in the near future.
