We amused ourself with such a test on a forum. Someone used a wav to start, made an mp3 of it and brought it back to wav. Offered both tracks as wav without more info. See who can tell them apart. I agree it is very hard, and most (>90%) won't be able to do it. You could do it with more types of music to check if it makes a difference.
