There is no way of adding this to red-book CDs.  I guess you could add a
data track and create a standard for how the lyrics should cue into the
music, but I know of no such project for this.  Red-book CD players
wouldn't be able to access it anyway.

It would make more sense for digital downloads - and would seem to be a
good way to add value for little cost.  It would be easy to have a tag
field like:
[hh:mm:ss]This is the first line of the lyrics
[hh:mm:ss]This is the second line of the lyrics
etc

Obviously it would be a fairly big field, but tiny compared to the
music.  Given a simple standard like that, it should be easy to show in
any media player.

I imagine the music companies will come out with all sorts of copyright
reasons why this would be totally unreasonable...
