QUOTE=Josh Coalson;180425 if you really can here a difference, then something in your slimserver setup is not right. either it's transcoding or replaygain is turned on or something. otherwise you would not be able to hear any difference between flac and wav, any more than you could hear the difference between wav and wav. they are the exact same bits coming out of the decoder.
Josh /QUOTE I don't think that the slimserver is the reason for the diffences, but rather the SB3. I assume that the server transfers the flac-files from the hard disk to the network interface without any changes (native format). The conversion to wave is done by the SB3 (am I right?). I just wonder if someone else made the same experience with the Flac / wav differences? I know that different influences (eg. jitter, cables, power supplies, etc - not Voodoo) could change the sound of the same file played on an SB3, therefore I could imagine that the same effects happen during converting the file in the SB3. Perhaps has the transporter a different behaviour - would be very interesting to get here an answer.
