True enough - and recently I have started buying quite a lot of old gems
from eBay/charity shops, giving them a wipe with a drop of isopropyl and
ripping them. Some of these are a little scratched in places, to say
the least!

iTunes does have some sort of error correction for ripping lossless
(can't remember what, without looking) but if I do ever get one that
sounds bad I could just use cdex, with paranoia set to full, rip to wav
and convert to ALAC. cdex is a very good little app, I reckon.
