The tag I've created on my ALAC .m4a files (ARTISTSORT) isn't read by
iTunes; instead it reads the PERFORMERSORTORDER tag. I arrived at
ARTISTSORT simply because it was listed in the wiki
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SlimServerSupportedTags as a SS
supported tag, and adding it in mp3tag seems to work for my mp3's -
they're all 2.3 tags, and whilst technically 2.3 doesn't support such
tags the latest beta of mp3tag (2.39c) will now read and write them to
2.3 tags.

The PERFORMERSORTORDER tag appears in iTunes if you view a file's info,
and then click the "Sorting" tab - it lists it as "Artist Sort" (I
think, not at home at the mo'). I'm using both ARTISTSORT and
PERFORMERSORTORDER so that I get the same sort results in both SS and
iTunes.

http://blech.vox.com/library/post/sort-fields-in-itunes-71.html is a
good blog on iTunes sorting, in particular the sixth comment down by a
Todd Larason - explains what's tagging where, and he appears to be a
SqueezeBox user, too.

I'll try SS 7 as soon as I can and post back. Still on 6.5.3 at the
mo. Thanks again Andy!
