Hello. I am under the process of tagging my digital musical assets in a
detailed way (it's now approx. 4,000 albums, 2/3 of it in FLAC and the
rest in MP3).

I am puzzled with the way Slimserver behaves regarding the "Date" tag -
in general the year and date related tags seem to be a bit confusing.

I use the "Date" tag (in Foobar and Tag&Rename) to enter the
information about the recording year. I am not really interested in the
year of album release, as I do not use SlimServer for cataloguing
purposes. I often choose music on my SB3 based on the recording year
(would also love to filter by recording period, such as browse for
recordings "from 1940 to 1945", but I guess this is not possible).

Everything seems to work well when all tracks in an album are recorded
in the same year. However, this is not always the case: a lot of jazz
albums (even single albums, not only compilations) include tracks that
are not recorded within the same year; it can be different sessions, or
bonus tracks from other sessions etc. Obviously, this is common in
compilations, boxsets etc. I notice that Slimserver behaves a little
arbitrarily in those cases...

To give an example, I have a 10-track album, of which 9 tracks are
recorded in 1953 and the last one is a "bonus" recorded in 1942.
Slimserver lists the album under 1942 only (it is NOT included in a
listing for 1953). This occurs in several other similar cases.

I would appreciate your insight regarding this issue. Is there any way
to deal with this?
