Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There is a function where one can conveniently import data from freedb
when
adding new releases.

I usually keep my browser open, and if anything is wrong I correct the
data using the webinterface and do a refresh in Picard. The
webinterface editor is somewhat clever also. E.g. when entering track
time one can just enter '345' and it will guess the correct value is
'3:45'.

This should not happen with the original disc, and hence the correct
disc ID. With only fingerprints/PUID's it is difficult to identify
similar releases. For me this is not such a big problem. I tend to use
the look up based on album/artist feature in Picard. Picard then
fetches a release with matching data. One can then choose the exact
release in the context menu. Otherwise drag and drop makes it easy to
move tracks from one release to another (Just drag the entire release
onto another one).

Yes it's not perfect and admittedly I had to grow into liking
it. After fighting the initial learning curve I've settled on a few
workflows which covers most of my needs and makes the process fairly
painless. Also it is a very ambitious project, and the quality
of the data will only get better as users contribute more.

Anyway...
