FLAC is lossless, so using it will not compromise the quality. There is
a compression level option when encoding to FLAC, this is often wrongly
called "quality" in ripping apps. This does not affect the quality of
the resulting files, just the higher the number the more FLAC will try
and produce smaller files. Although there isn't a great deal of size
difference between the difference levels, but using -8 will take a lot
longer to encode than using -1 for example.

Have a look at CDEx, it is fairly simple to use and although isn't as
paranoid as EAC can be about ripping damaged CDs, is a good ripper.

FLAC also has destinct advantages over uncompressed WAV. WAV files
don't normally have meta data (also known as tags) so can be hard to
catalogue in SlimServer. FLAC files don't have this problem. Also
streaming to SqueezeBoxes over wireless is generally more relaible with
FLAC. Two reasons for this, they use roughly half the bandwidth so you
get less transmition problems and the SBs can buffer twice the music,
also making drop outs less likely.

Hope this helps :)
