I've a 90GB library, stored on a USB drive and accessed in Vista. The majority is stored in AAC, however I'd like to rerip my collection in Apple Lossless. I assumed I could reinsert a CD I already have in my library, and iTunes would detect it and ask if I'd like to reimport the tracks. When I click yes iTunes flies through the tracks, spending less than a second on each, and overwrites the files on my USB drive wiht much smaller (~14k) files -clearly not music files... In iTunes the "reimported" tracks are marked as unavailable, and they will not play.
What's going on, and how do I go about reripping my collection in iTunes?
