I have quite a lot of compilation and mix albums. I think mine display ok so I'll check my SqueezeCenter settings later.
My approach with tagging is to have the same ALBUMARTIST tag across all the tracks if I want to record the fact that the album was compiled (or mixed) by a particular person while also having the ARTIST tag for each individual track set to the name of that particular artist. In doing that I think it is possible to search by either ALBUMARTIST or ARTIST... If I don't want to search by the compiler/mixer then I just leave the ALBUMARTIST blank. I don't use the COMPILATION tag at all for no reason other than I associate it with iTunes and kinda have an aversion to that piece of software :-) I wouldn't say I'm any kind of expert in tagging so don't read too much into any of what I've said.
