I know it is more expensive, but try to find plastic boxes (the
Container Store comes to mind) of a size that hold the CDs without
wasted leftover space. Paper/cardboard has so many nasty drawbacks.
They hold moisture, breed mold, breed bugs, are not waterproof, and on
and on. The only real advantage of Paper/Cardboard is the price IMO.

If you can part with the jewel cases, spindle packs are the way to go.
100 CDs to a spindle, 12 spindles to a milk crate. If stacking is an
issue, mix and match using 50 and 100 spindles so none stick over the
top. Milk crates are easy to stack and move.
