Actually I had exactly the same problem on my iPod, whereby I had two albums called 'Live' and it would show the separate albums, but when I played one or the other it would play track 1 from both albums, followed by track 2 from both albums etc.
ALBUMSORT didn't help (assuming I did that correctly) and in the end I was forced to rename the albums: e.g. Colosseum - Colosseum Live Greenslade - Greenslade Live. Not exactly ideal.
