I mostly use fb2k to set both tags - track gain and album gain - for flac's and mp3's. I had never problems even with those big 96/24-flacs and have smart gain enabled all the time, too. One exception: if foobar tells me the album RG is no more than +/-3db, i omit the album RG to save some processing/altering - the less the better ;-)
