I just got my Squeezebox Duet set up on my Linkstation and things seem to be working apart from the fact that I get a lot of stuttering when I start playing back AAC files for the first 30 secs or so.
I am slightly disappointed to find that the Duet cannot playback AAC files natively - my much cheaper Pico radio can play them back no problem from the twonky server running on the linkstation, and the description of the duet suggests it can play these files. I have rebuilt FAAD into fixed point mode as described on the wiki (fiddly to say the least) and it reports that it can convert the files in 5-6x real time which should be fine, however my guess is that at the start it cannot keep the player buffer filled fast enough to prevent it from being starved of data - there is of course a tradeoff between the buffer size and the responsiveness to play commands when decoding / transcoding is required. Before I go and convert my entire library to MP3 (much of it was originally grabbed using ITunes) which I would rather not do because of both the time involved and the inherent quality impact of the conversion I want to check if there is any way to control the buffering behaviour in the player (there are lots of parameters in the server prefs file...) - this is of course assuming that there isnt any impending firmware update for the player which will allow it to natively accept AAC-LC files.
