I would love to see responses to this question as well. My goal is the same - rip to FLAC for use on Squeezebox (plus use MediaMonkey to convert on the fly for use on iPod).
It seems clear that dBpoweramp is a great (or the best) program to use, but in reading through their forums it looks really intimidating.
