i've never understood why someone would want a box set to appear as one
single album.  i always set one album to equal one cd, regardless of
anything else.

i can see where some people might want eg. "the white album" to appear
as one album, but even before digital, i thought of it as TWO separate
records, (& 4 sides), or two albums that come under the nomenclature of
one album.

i agree with the previous comment, albums like that were thought of as
sides.  yes, it may have been borne of a technical restraint of the
medium, but that doesn't mean artists didn't embrace it, and mold their
work to fit within it.
