Hello all.

First time poster, long time lurker. My question is, if I am
purchasing items from I-Tunes in the "Plus" format which is AAC at
256k, I know that SB has to "transcode" that on the fly.
Alternatively, it is fairly simple to convert those files to WAV which
I realize has no bearing on the "true" audio quality of the song since
the original is only 256, BUT you avoid transcoding at the expense of
storage space? Is there any advantage to this from a pure audio
standpoint by avoiding the transcoding? I have experimented with Apple
Lossless that was created from a CD directly compared to a WAV file of
the same song and to "my ears", I heard a slight difference with the
WAV sounding better, so my assumption was that the transcoding was
potentially having a very slight audible impact.

So I am now converting anything that was AAC to WAV to avoid the
transcode in SB.

Am I crazy?

Oh yes, and all disclaimers apply regarding the "I can hear a
difference", as it was not scientific but certainly perceived and I was
able to identify with my wife switching between the two.

Oh, and yes, I have thought about FLAC but so much is already in AAC or
WAV that I just want to stay simple.

Thanks in advance for any input.
