Never used Foobar for ripping, I know a lot of people like it, but I just haven't given it time to like it (and don't see the point when there other apps that I don't need to learn to use fully).
I'd highly recomend dbPoweramp as well, thats what I use for ripping and batch converting to MP3, along with Tag&Rename for tagging. Though apparently dbpoweramp are going to add a tagging app to their suite, so i'll probably use that then it is released. Sounds to me the .flac.flac files are just a dump of the tags, don't know why it would be doing that.
