I have found that sometimes, using the controller, I can search for and find the artist for a particular track, but some artists aren't findable this way. (However, if I use SC rather than the controller, I find them okay.) As near as I can tell, what makes the difference is whether the artist is listed in the database as an Album Artist. I suspect that, if an artist is Album Artist for at least one album, that artist becomes searchable, and all tracks for that artist show up in the results list, including tracks on compilations where that artist is not the Album Artist. But, if the artist isn't Album Artist for any album, then he isn't searchable (or browsable either for that matter) using the controller.
Is this correct? I would like to be able to search for such artists using my controller. I'm looking for advice. I currently have no tool capable of showing me tags like COMPILATION. I also don't seem to be able to simply clear the Album Artist tag value. I'm just using Windows Media Player so far. (My attempt to use something called Picard from MusicBrainz to edit tags earlier today was very disappointing.) When I try to delete the Album Artist value, WMP simply fills it in again (while deleting other stuff)! So I have not been able to test my little theory above. I suppose it's clear that I'm a total newbie at this. -- dpotts ------------------------------------------------------------------------ dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62590 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
