My desktop machine (Windows 7) sees very little use these days except for ripping (CDs and DVDs), tag modifications and a few other brief tasks, so I'm thinking of consolidating Windows into my server via a virtual machine (VMWare Server). I've had a quick play with my current server (Ubuntu 8.04 on Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T7200 and 2GB RAM (maxed out) - 1 GB allocated to the virtual machine). However, I'm getting quite a few freeze ups, some of which are permanent.
Is anybody doing anything similar and what are your experiences/specs? I do have an Intel E3110 which I believe supports hardware-assisted virtualisation and the supporting motherboards can take more RAM. I was also considering a base-level mac mini with added RAM.
