Thanks for letting me know about this additional method. A few
questions for you so I understand this fully;

1. I am assuming that the FLAC encoding is for tagging purposes only as
MLP already provides for lossless compression.
2. Is the file inside the FLAC encoded file still MLP encoded or did
you use Foobar2000 to convert the MLP to multi-channel .wav and then
encode the .wav file to a multi-channel FLAC file? Can Foobar200 can do
this conversion in a single step i.e. MLP 5.1 to FLAC 5.1?
3. Is the stream going to your HDMI receiver/amp in multi-channel PCM
format?
4. Presumably the HDMI from your Acer computer goes to a receiver and
then from the receiver to a television. Is there any audio that gets
passed onto the television and if so is it downmixed to a 2 channel
stream?

I probably have a few more questions but if you could confirm/answer
these that will help me greatly. I am currently looking at getting a
receiver that is capable of HDMI and the new surround sound formats
introduced with Blue-Ray Discs and I want to be sure that I get a system
that will handle all that I will throw at it.
