You get free updates up to the next major release.  You may even get an
update to the next release.

Beyond that, if you want access to the tag data from "perfect meta",
it's $5 per year.  This is very reasonable IMO and is very much worth
it.

You get to choose your level of functionality - free version up to the
fully loaded version.  Most people find the fully loaded version fits
their needs best.  I eventually upgraded to it.  No regrets.

The fact is that yes, you can use free software to do what you need to
do.  I did it for a long time.  However, for a very reasonable price,
you can get dbPowerAmp and save yourself a considerable amount of time. 
I'm at a point in my life where my free time is limited, so it is well
worth it to me.
