I don't think that Apple Lossless is natively supported by Squeezeboxes,
but to be honest I don't follow the status support for Apple's codecs
closely so don't take my word for it. If indeed SBs don't have native
support for ALAC that means if you had ALAC only it would have to be
transcoded on your server. As long as your server has reasonable specs
(ie, not some very underpowered NAS) then transcoding isn't necessarily
a big problem. When you transcode on the server you do lose support for
FF/Rew.

Also, if in the future you want to use the SB Touch with its built-in
server (nicknamed TinySC or TinySBS) you'll need FLAC files, because
that stripped down configuration of the server cannot transcode at all.

Fyi, you should only need to do one clear and rescan to update your
library. If it continues to take multiple scans to register your changes
then something is still wrong.
