Jim,
thx a lot for that excellent post. i actually started to do what you
said, but the more i thought about the caveats you mentioned, the more i
thought its not the solution i'm looking for.
so what i did was create two columns. one's called "Band (AA in Apps)"
for true band tags; the other one's called "Album Artist" for true album
artist tags. i then used mp3tag to copy/dupe my FLAC's AA tag info into
new band tags for those flacs which previously hadn't existed.
so basically, now i use the column "Band (AA in Apps)" as my
organizational most lefthand column, and don't use the "Album Artist"
column much at all, (its mostly blank outside of the Flacs).
its a bit of a kludge of course, but its a fairly simple one with no
big drawback for me, b/c i never stored "proper" band tag/info anywhere
to begin with. i only need artist, and AA tags, and i don't fight the
power where TPE2 is concerned.
the only "bad" part of it is that i will have to dupe AA tags for my
FLACs into Band tags as well, but only when i want to use mp3tag and get
a consistent exp as to what i would get in winamp or SBS. i can easily
live with that.
thx again for the explanation.
one other Q. this part was already in my mp3tag:
Code:
--------------------
Tag Source Target
-------------------------------------------------
VorbisComment DATE YEAR
VorbisComment ORGANIZATION PUBLISHER
VorbisComment TRACKNUMBER TRACK
--------------------
i don't recall doing that. did mp3tag do it, and is it there b/c its
just universally accepted as true?
