update and some questions...

writing ratings to tags is now done by winamp (mostly). you do have to
edit an ini file to turn the [write to tag] option on, but its very
simple. however, they seem to at this time only be writing to id3 type
files.

in mp3tag, i created a column called "Ratings" and used %POPULARIMETER%
as both the value and the field for the column, "numeric" was left
unchecked, and "sort by" unfilled.

winamps GUI does no stars to 5 stars. so a 4 star song reports this
value in mp3tag:

[email protected]|196|0

...b/c it uses the 0-255 scale that windows/wmp supports, (as per the
popm id3 spec). the email addy is meant to differentiate users (again,
by spec), but i don't think two winamp users can at this time be told
apart by winamp.

its great to see agreement on rating id3 files between two major apps
like winamp and WMP.

unfortunately, winamp doesn't do flac/vorbis ratings in tags yet,
meaning writing them. it might read them, i'm not sure. it does do
like it always did, and allows you to rate the file in the winamp DB,
but that info is easily lost.

my question is, how do i create a column for ratings for FLACs and
Vorbis? i assume my popularimeter column is not appropriate for them,
correct?

what data ranges would i expect to find in such a column?

does m4a use flac type tags?
