I was experimenting with changing some Title tags to include composer as
many of the cddb files have, with this format:
composer / track_title

I moved this new set of files to server machine and had SBS rescan.
Got exactly the behavior I wanted, with these files listed under the
composer but also still available by album, plus under album SBS web
interface showed each track as:
track_title "by" composer
and when played, composer would show up in "artist" field of display.

Here is my problem: I then wanted to rename the track files
differently, so did that on another machine, moved back over and
rescanned, and no longer had the above behavior. Now tracks for the
album show up literally as:
composer / track_title
and they are no longer cross listed under composer.

I have tried going back to what I think I had that worked, and even
completely rescanned from scratch, but cannot seem to get the behavior
that I want and that I had at first. Would appreciate it if anyone has
any suggestions as to what happened. I did not change any tag/sort
options. Very odd--almost like I imagined it (but I did not).

Thanks!

(Also yes I know there are a variety of schemes for classical tagging
and have been reading through these. Please try to avoid responding to
my question by simply suggesting a completely different approach. I
want to know why these files got sorted one way and then a different
way, and I cannot recover the original.)
