OK guys, this is an odd one which I thought I would checkout here before posting on the mp3tag forums!
Im a longtime mp3 tag user and have been very happy with it. I run it in the portable config described by the mp3tag author (see http://forums.mp3tag.de/index.php?showtopic=976) on both a thumb drive and a fully-patched XP Home desktop. In fact, whenever I update, I simply copy the entire new portable directory to whatever devices need it. Thus, both thumb drive and desktop normally contain exactly the same code, in exactly the same directory structure. I recently got a 2Tb Vortexbox Appliance plus a Touch and am very happy with it. Because loads of people here recommend mp3tag thats what I used when I wanted to check-up on some new rips to the VBA and thats where it got interesting! When run from my thumb drive against the files on the VBA, mp3tag (2.47a and earlier versions) behaved exactly as normal. But, when run from my desktop, it either hung on opening or sort of opened but took around 5 mins to do it and scan the directory (5 files) that it was looking at. After killing this attempt with Task Manager, switching back to the version on my thumb drive worked fine. I emphasise that both versions of mp3tag were the same code and the same directory structure however, the code run from my hard disk [more or less] froze (repeatably) whilst the same version run from thumb drive (plugged in to my desktop) worked as normal. So, has anybody seen this before or got any ideas whats causing this?
