Trying to get different bits of kit, and different bits of software to talk to each other seems to be getting harder and harder. I just want a simple life - one music library with files I can play on any kit I own.
At the moment my music is all in FLAC format (16 and 24bit) on a Vortexbox server. Indoors it is played via SB3 and SB Touch and I have a FLAC capable car stereo (Phatbox). So all is sweetness and light. My PC is an IMac and I use a third party application called Songbird to manage files (does much the same as Media Monkey for Windows). I've never even tried to use ITunes as it wont handle FLAC (wil it ?). But I'm changing car and support for the Phatbox is dying (and afaik it's only available for Audi and VW). No other car stereo capable of playing music files does FLAC. But lots have an IPod connection so I'm thinking - get an IPod for the car. But I assume then I'd have to switch my entire collection from FLAC to Apple Lossless (I don't want compressed, or a second music library). So questions; 1) Am I on the right track ? 2) Is there any way I can continue to play FLAC files in the car ? 3) Will the SB3 and SB Touch handle Apple Lossless up to 24bit (my Cowon portable handles FLAC but only up to 16 bit which means it just crashes if it meets a 24 bit file). 4) What software could I use to convert 350Gb of music from FLAC to Apple Lossless ? 5) Would it run on my IMac ? Oh for the good old days when you just put a record on . . . . . -- liffy99 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ liffy99's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7832 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84652 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
