My apologies if this feels like ANOTHER thread about album splitting,
but I have searched the forum and read many posts about this issue that
don't quite cover the problem I am facing. I have learned a lot
especially with regards to compilations logic, 'The Greatest Hits'
issue and Various Artists. However I am still unable to explain or
resolve the issue I have.

Also I hope you don't mind a very detailed description of the problem,
but from reading other posts it seems the best information is garnered
when the problem is fully explained and understood by forum members.

I am running Squeezebox Server 7.5.3, the problem manifests with DJ mix
albums that are double CD's. My options are set to 'Group compilations
together', 'List albums by Band', 'Treat TPE2 MP3 tag as Band' and
'Treat multi-disc sets as single album'.

I am an experienced user of MP3tag. Once ripped from CD my MP3's are
first completely stripped of any tag information. I then fully write
tag information from discogs and I only write id3v2.3 tags. I pay
particular attention to make sure the only tags that differ from track
to track are TIT2, TPE1, TRCK and TPOS (depending on the disc the track
came from).

Now DJ mix CD's are made of tracks from different artists, however the
DJ is an important artistic influence on the compilation and so is
identified in MP3tag's ABLUMARTIST field (TPE2). I write TPOS as 1/2 or
2/2 and use TRCK in the format of 1/12 and its reset for each disc. The
MP3 files are all held in one folder and the filename format is
discnumber-track number track title.mp3 (eg 1-02 Lost in trans.mp3)

Now here is the issue; a number of the MIX cd's show up as two albums.
The split is never by disc, so for example I have an album called
'Global Underground: Nubreed 003' which appears twice. The first entry
has track 1/14 to 9/14 from disc 1 listed and the second entry has
10/14 to 14/14 from disc 1 and 1/13 to 13/13 from disc 2.

I have another album called 'Pure Intec' that is correctly listed as
one album with tracks from both discs listed in the correct order.

I have other DJ mix double disc albums that suffer this strange split
at seemingly random parts. I equally have DJ mix double disc ablums
that don't suffer from this issue. The only consistent thing is that it
only seems to happen on albums where the TPE2 field is used. I have
other mutli disc sets that where there is only a TPE1 field this
problem does not appear, for example Paul Wellers Catch-Flame! is a
double CD which squeezebox server lists as one album with the tracks
listed is the correct disc order.

One thing I have noticed is that if I change the option 'Treat
multi-disc sets as single album' to 'Treat multi-disc sets as multiple
albums' I do not get the random splits, but I correctly see the albums
listed with the (Disc 1 of 2) attached to the title. For example with
the album 'Global Underground: Nubreed 003' where previously with
'Treat multi-disc sets as single album' I would get the split in disc
1, with 'Treat multi-disc sets as multiple albums' I get the album
tracks listed properly in two separate albums with tracks 1/14 to 14/14
in disc 1 and 1/13 to 13/13 in disc 2.

I've obviously cleared the library and rescanned everything (this
happens when you change the multi disc option) and also because changes
to TPE2 only append when scanning changes.

Any thoughts on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
