Hi all
I have around 1000 Mainly classical CD's which I've finally converted
to flac files on disk.

Squeezebox devices play flac directly too.

What I've done is ripped each CD to FLAC in it's own file.

If I need to re-create the CD any time I burn the FLAC file of the CD
to a "Virtual" CD Image with Nero. I then mount this with Alcohol 52%
Free edition (unlike a lot of Virtual CD emulators etc) Alcohol 52%
works as an Iscsi device and will mount NERO .NRG files as an audio
CD.

So this sytem gives me my entire CD collection as Non Lossy compressed
files on disc -- I can easily recreate a copy of the original CD if I
need it.

Using squeezebox to stream the audio I doubt if I will ever need to
unpack the Real CD's again -- so that's a huge amount of physical
storage space saved.

Winamp etc will re-tag the tracks again via Gracenote. Other software
will aslo retrieve CD data from Gracenote / or FreeDDB depending on
the application.

I'm still using Minidiscs as a portable music device -- Simple Burner
will copy the "Virtual CD's" to the MD device. Hi-MD will gedt up to 8
CD's at high quality on to a single MD.

The MD quality wise just BLOWS AWAY any Ipad / Smart phone. Even
though the device is old the quality is STREETS ahead of some of the
modern MP3 type players.

Cheers
-j
