In my experience as a (fairly) long XLD user, the CD details are not always picked up, even for CDs you think should be common. What I normally do is insert the CD, launch XLD and then go to File|Open Audio CD on the XLD menu. This should get the disk scanned in to XLD and may or may not pick up the track details. If it doesn't then I go to the CDDB menu and click on Get CD Track Names.
I cannot recall an instance when this didn't work except when the CD was so obscure that CDDB had no entry for it - and I have had my fair share of those. The only way then is the laborious one of manually inputing the data for each track.
