The above advice should give you a fine start on your task of digitizing your music library.
One thing that I did not see mentioned is that you should make several copies of the digitized library. Backups are critical as sooner or later the drive/drives it is on will fail. You are going to expend a great deal of time to do this correctly and do not want to start over from square one when a drive fails. Develop a system which includes making corrections, and stick to it as well as you can.
