We are pleased to invite you to the next edition of the RIT reading group on August 29, 12:00-1:00, in room 200C of Warren Hall (2195 Hearst). This week, we'll be talking with a couple research groups that are developing APIs as part of their projects. Each of these groups could easily take a whole hour to talk about their projects, but we'll try to keep their demonstrations/discussions to 12 minutes each in order to have substantial time for the group to talk about APIs in support of research.
Michelle Koo and Kevin Koy will talk about the Berkeley Initiative for Global Change Biology (BIGCB). Here are some links to read beforehand: - http://globalchange.berkeley.edu/research-framework - http://globalchange.berkeley.edu/ecoinformatics-engine - http://ecoengine.berkeley.edu/developers/ Chris Jones and team members will talk about the CoolClimate Network. Here's some reading for their project: - http://coolclimate.berkeley.edu/about - http://coolclimate.berkeley.edu/carboncalculator - http://coolclimate.berkeley.edu/api CoolClimate uses the API Central service at https://developer.berkeley.edu/, and it's definitely worth checking out. Be prepared to talk about other research projects developing APIs, best practices for APIs, and where this might go next! If you have any questions, please contact Quinn ([email protected]).
