All,

We'll be meeting again on Wednesday 5/21 at noon, in 200C Warren Hall, to discuss the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and Research Computing. The EDW's Mark Chiang and Walter Stokes will facilitate next week's discussion.

Before the meeting, please review the following, a set of readings compiled by Berkeley's EDW team, D-Lab staff, and others:

o Big data vendors should stop dissing data warehouse systems <http://searchbusinessanalytics.techtarget.com/feature/Big-data-vendors-should-stop-dissing-data-warehouse-systems> by Wayne Eckerson o ETL for America <http://daguar.github.io/2014/03/17/etl-for-america/> by Dave Guarino o ETL vs ELT: We Posit, You Judge <http://www.iri.com/blog/data-transformation2/etl-vs-elt-we-posit-you-judge/> by David Friedland

Optionally, have a look at (browse) the CalAnswers <http://calanswers.berkeley.edu/> and EDW <http://edw.berkeley.edu> sites, to get a sense of what the EDW currently offers to the campus.

Note that for the second time in a row we'll be meeting on a Wednesday -- this time because the One IT Picnic event is scheduled during our regular Thursday time. As usual, those without keycard access to Warren should take the elevator to the 2nd floor; if no one is at the reception window, look for a sign with a phone number to call to be let through the locked doors.

Looking forward to seeing you next week.

Steve
