To be honest if they're in there I'd imagine thats where they're meant to be (it would be strange to have everything copied from /var/snd on a computing whim). It depends how Rivendell is setup. Check your /etc/rd.conf file. I only have a Riv 1.7 to hand but its under the [cae] section down as "AudioRoot=/var/snd" for me.
If the Audio Root matches to your home directory then just check the directory permissions. You'll need to match the permissions to whats written in your rd.conf. Namely AudioOwner and AudioGroup needs to match the owner:group on the directory.
