From: Fred Gleason <fr...@paravelsystems.com>

When you say 'available within Rivendell to "choose" as an option', do you mean
in RDAlsaConfig?

Also, could you please post the output of 'cat /proc/asound/cards'?

Cheers!

Hi Fred,

Thank you (and everyone) for responding!  First, let me express a HUGE thank
you to Fred and anyone else that has worked on developing this application!
Your efforts are very much appreciated and I hope whatever feedback I can share
is useful.

Ok, I re-installed the CentOS distro to get fresh info again.

1) Upon first reboot from installing and NOT running anything except terminal:

Output of 'cat /proc/asound/cards':
0 [V8237       ]: VIA8237 - VIA 8237
                       VIA 8237 with ALC655 at 0xc000, irq 193

Output of 'cat /etc/asound.conf':
# *** Start of Rivendell configuration generated by rdalsaconfig(1) ***
pcm.rd0 {
  type hw
  card 0
  device 0
}
ctl.rd0 {
  type hw
  card 0
}
# *** End of Rivendell configuration generated by rdalsaconfig(1) ***

2) Administration, Sound Card Detection recognizes the on-board sound card, and
the test sound is heard fine.

3) RDAdmin, Manage Hosts, edit localhost (only one in list)
RDLibrary - the only value listed for the card fields is:  None
RDCatch - the only value listed for the card fields is:  None
RDAirplay - the only value listed for the card fields is:  None
RDPanel - the only value listed for the card fields is:  None
RDLogEdit - the only value listed for the card fields is:  None
AudioPorts - Card=0, Driver=UNKNOWN, all other fields grayed out.  Doesn't
change if you select other values for Card (1-7).
Audio Resources - Audio Adapters shows Card 0-7 as 'Not present'

4) RDAlsaConfig shows:
Active Sound Devices (lower pane):
VIA 8237 with ALC655 at 0xc000, irq 193 - VIA 8237 [1]

Available Sound Devices (upper pane):
VIA 8237 with ALC655 at 0xc000, irq 193 - VIA 8237 [2]

and it lets you move them up or down in any combination if desired.
It let me move them around, but I left them as-is (cancel).

5) KDE Control Center, Sound System shows Enable Sound System as unchecked, so
I assume it hasn't hijacked the sound card.  I left it unchecked.

6) No change after rebooting and checking everything above.

Thanks!,
