We may be seeing the tail end of this particular phenomenon, but you might be able to inexpensively score a retired board from a facility that upgraded in recent times. The downside is you'll have to be content with an old piece of gear, with goodness knows how many holes drilled into it for various mods over the years. I have a '70s vintage LPB five-potter in the basement, with a Gatesway 80 and a Sparta A-15B in the garage, all waiting for something to do.
