It will make a copy as <cart_number>_<cut_number> I had the same problem with shows that run from 22:30 until 01:30 overnight. Was no big issue to work around.
I know from programming experience that working with times and dates especially like this is a nightmare without seriously complicating your code or adding a day (e.g. Mon, Tue) and Time component. It then gets even nicer when you have to work across multiple time zones (I have to deal with GMT/BST and India) and servers out of your control with random time zone settings.
