How old is your database? If it is several years old, it might be time to run rddbcheck. Make a backup copy of your database first. My MySQL dump of my database was 40 meg when running Rivendell 1.72 and when I upgraded to rivendell 2.x.x it jumped to 80 meg. The rddbcheck cleans out old stuff and fixes the database.
