And progress. After going into RDAdmin/JACK Settings and adding as a JACK Client /usr/bin/qjackctl, I have audio.
If I launch qjackctl from a terminal as su, I can see the server running and see the connections. Not pretty, but progress. I will have to blog this or something so the next newbie can find it.
